Best way to do Skype language exchange?

I have been studying Korean for a while and I am ok with reading/writing, but cannot really speak or listen well. I decided to do a Skype language exchange. I have a partner who I have spoken with before, but her English is much better than my Korean.

How can I practice speaking and listening even while my abilities are at a very basic level? Any tips for doing a Skype language exchange? ^^ Thanks

As opposed to a teacher, who will dedicate 100% of the time to you, a language exchange with a partner is generally 50/50. This could mean you speak for an hour, spending half an hour in each language, or you could speak for an hour in just one language one time and then the next time you spend the whole hour speaking the other language.

I think the second way is better. It gives you time to get into the flow of the things and you feel less rushed.

Also, just because her written English is better than your Korean, doesn't mean she's good at speaking. Sure she knows more words and grammar, but she may struggle a lot to form sentences on the spot or pronounce things correctly.

You only need to know a few things in your target language to get started speaking~

Try preparing some things you'd like to say ahead of time (such as an introduction, simple phrases, and basic words like "yes" or "no", etc).

I also prefer using audio and video because it feels more human and real and you have body language to help. It's more natural to me.
