Wes
Italian possessives of proper nouns

How do you say in Italian: It is John's apple.

Every translation app I have is completely inconsistent depending on the noun belonging to John:

E 'mela Giovanni.

E 'mela di Giovanni.

E divano Giovanni.

E letto di Giovanni.

E 'la televisione di Giovanni.

Si tratta di libro di Giovanni.

I'm watching this video:

The guy says you can figure out all the essential grammar by knowing how to say the 13 sentences he lists at 3:14. But there seems to be no rule here. And I can't find anything searching the internet.

It is Giovann's apple. It is the apple of Giovanni.

It is Wes' car. It is the car of Wes. E' la macchina di Wes.

Although in English you use the possessive form, try to put it the way I wrote it. Then, it should be easier for you to translate it into Italian (at least I think).
