Something about my region.

I will try to tell (Or, I will treat you to something about my ..)you something about my near region or "Comarca". My region has seventeen villages and small towns. Its name is "Los Pedroches" and its main wealth is the cattle and the work of his men. Really, the most people make their  life from the countryside, especially in the past. There are here a lot of associations of ranchers and, mainly, there is one very big which producer a lot of milk, iberian ham and meat, cheese and other products. There are also other cooperatives which produce organic olive oil from our mountains or "sierra". These products are sell very well in Spain but mainly they are sold in other countries through out Europe and also in Japan and the USA. I have just seen this morning a new website which sells these cordovan products in USA and Canada. Its name is latienda.com. (OR a new website where these products are sold)

My region is a part of Córdoba, and of Andalusia, of course. We are in the most northern part in Andalusia. We have been for centuries isolated from Andalusia because the big barrier of the mountains of "Sierra Morena" has done that we will be too much far of Andalusia. The mountains of Sierra Morena are not very high but they whether are wide. When I was a child the journey to Cordoba took two hours and the road was in very poor condition with a lot of bends. Nowadays, we can get to Cordoba in forty minutes and without any bends.

Our character and our cultura do not come from Andalusia but from the centre of Spain, from Castilla and Extremadura, both regions are above Andalusia. Although nowadays our original culture is dying  out in favor of Andalusian cultura. This is not bad, but we should always remember our own culture and not forget where it comes from.

Andalucia sounds a very interesting part of Spain, when people thing of Spain, flamenco is one of the first things that comes to mind. 

One Andalucian waiter that I met in Lanzarote always said to me, ''Hola caballero'' he was very well mannered, he was from Cádiz.

Great job, Dani. Very interesting. I know that the conquistadors came from Extremadura, and that their dialect is the basis of Latin American Spanish. That's why Latin Americans don't lisp -- at least that's what I've heard.
