While teaching Russian While teaching Russian I realised that grammar as it's studied in russian schools is pretty illogical and needs to be re-systematized. Many issues and rules which are obvious for russians cannot be explained for non-native speakers. I find it wrong. Russian textbooks should have less explanations a-la "that rule sounds pretty stupid but it exists for historical reasons" or "now learn 9000 exceptions for past and present tenses" and they should be more consistent in terms and rules. I suspect that if you replace word "russian" here for any other language the problem wiil be same. I also suspect that I made like billion mistakes in this post.

While Teaching Russian

While teaching Russian I realised that grammar as it is studied in Russian schools is pretty illogical, and needs to be re-systematized. Many issues and rules which are obvious to Russians cannot be explained to non-native speakers. I find that wrong. Russian textbooks should have less explanations a la [variant: à la]  "that rule sounds pretty stupid, but it exists for historical reasons", or "now learn 9,000 exceptions for the past and present tenses"; and they should be more consistent regarding terms and rules.

I suspect that if you replace the word "Russian" here for any other language, the problem will be same.
I also suspect that I made like billion mistakes in this post.

Far fewer than a billion!  Very well written.

9000 exceptions -_-''...just find out about movement ones... I'll never learn Russian :(

There might be differences in learning patterns. What I do is, within a subject I try to write what I’ve learned, and try to read others' examples and usage as much as I can. I try to keep track of my mistakes. :)

The only one strategy that works for me is to read as much as you can.

Considering the fact that "there are 9000 exceptions", we need more strategies for learning the grammar.
