Aking pamilya Since I’m having trouble finding Tagalog learning books, I’m trying to recreate some of the exercises found in those in order to practice the language. Therefore, I will attempt to describe the occupations of my family and some of their general situation in the following text. In the following one, I will try to do the physical and mental description of some of my friends. For the sake of being understood, I will translate what I intend to write in parenthesis. Unlike my first entry, it will not be reviewed prior to being post, so if you’ve read my first one, don’t be deceived by the increased number of mistakes or flaws. After this text gets corrected, I will post it again and then record me reading it so that you could tell me how to improve my spoken tagalog. Hello, Pag-uusapan ko ang aking pamilya sa iyo ngayong araw. (Today I will talk to you about my family). Mayroon akong dalawang byolohikong kapatid na lalaki. (I have two biological brothers) Labing-walong taong gulang na ang bunso. Siya ay estudyante sa kolehiyo. (The youngest is 18 years old. He is a student in college) Dalawampu’t tatlong taong gulang na ang kuya. Nag-aral siya ng parmasya sa unibersidad. (The oldest is 23 years old. He studied pharmacy in university) Nasa gitna ako, ako ay kadet. Dalawampung taong gulang na ako. Nag-aaral ako ng ley sa Unibersidad ng Montréal (I’m in the middle (speaking of age), I’m the cadet. I’m 20 years old. I’m studying Law in the University of Montréal) Guro ang aking ama. Nagpakasal siya sa pilipina ng Hong Kong ito kaninang taglamig (My father is a teacher. He got married with a Filipino woman of Hong Kong this past winter). Manggagamot ang aking ina. Nagtatrabaho siya sa health center para sa lumang tao. (My mother is a Doctor (medecine). She’s working in a health center for old people [I do believe that they’re would be a more polite or official way to name these center, but I forgot the terms] )

Since I’m having trouble finding Tagalog learning books, I’m trying to recreate some of the exercises found in those in order to practice the language. Therefore, I will attempt to describe the occupations of my family and some of their general situation in the following text. Pag-uusapan ko ang aking pamilya sa iyo ngayong araw. (Today I will talk to you about my family).
Ngayong araw na ito, itatalakay/tatalakayin ko sa inyo ang tungol sa aking pamilya.
Or…
Pag-uusapan natin ang tungkol aking pamilya sa araw na ito.
*Talakay=discuss

Mayroon akong dalawang byolohikong kapatid na lalaki. (I have two biological brothers)
Mayroon akong dalawang buong kapatid na lalaki.
*Buo=literally means whole; Oddly we don’t refer to half-brother as kalahating kapatid, rather kapatid sa ama/ina (brother by father/mother).

Labing-walong taong gulang na ang bunso. Siya ay estudyante sa kolehiyo. (The youngest is 18 years old. He is a student in college)
Labing-walong taong gulang na ang aming bunso. Siya ay estudyante sa kolehiyo.

Dalawampu’t tatlong taong gulang na ang kuya. Nag-aral siya ng parmasya sa unibersidad. (The oldest is 23 years old. He studied pharmacy in university)
Dalawampu’t tatlong taong gulang na ang aming panganay. Nag-aral siya ng parmasya sa unibersidad.

Nasa gitna ako, ako ay kadet. Dalawampung taong gulang na ako. Nag-aaral ako ng ley sa Unibersidad ng Montréal (I’m in the middle (speaking of age), I’m the cadet. I’m 20 years old. I’m studying Law in the University of Montréal)

Guro ang aking ama. Nagpakasal siya sa pilipina ng Hong Kong ito kaninang taglamig (My father is a teacher. He got married with a Filipino woman of Hong Kong this past winter).
Guro ang aking ama. Nagpakasal siya sa isang Filipina ng Hong Kong ito nakaraang taglamig.
*nakaraan=past; kanina=a while ago

Manggagamot ang aking ina. Nagtatrabaho siya sa health center para sa lumang tao. (My mother is a Doctor (medecine). She’s working in a health center for old people [I do believe that they’re would be a more polite or official way to name these center, but I forgot the terms] )
Manggagamot ang aking ina. Nagtatrabaho siya sa health center para sa mga matatanda.
*matanda=old, if used as a noun may refer to an old person, or matatanda (plural)
can also be used as an adjective for other living creatures like matandang puno=old tree; matandang aso=old dog
*luma=old, is an adjective for non-living things like lumang pantalon=old pants;

lumang bahay=old house
*health center=sentrong pangkalusugan; However, not everybody is familiar with that term. Taglish is just so terrible here. :(

o So pamantasan is prefered to "unibersidad" CORRECT, SAME MEANING AND BOTH ARE EQUALLY USED . o Thanks, I was looking for the word “Abogasya” :) - Is there any reason why you used mga before matatanda? Does it have to be plural?CORRECT (IN PLURAL FORM YOU MUST USE MGA FOR EXAMPLE: THE BIRDS " ANG MGA IBON") I'm still a beginner, and I really have to ask these questions to understand what I need to for to improve my texts.
