मी मराठी शिकण्यासाठी प्रारंभ केल्यापासून एक वर्ष पार केले. तेथे त्यात जास्त प्रगती नाही आहे, पण मी सुरू ठेवू इच्छितो. 

A year has passed since I started to learn Marathi. There is not much progress, but I want to continue.

A more usual way to say this in Marathi:

मी मराठी शिकण्यासाठी सुरूवात केल्यापासून एक वर्ष झाले. त्यात जास्त प्रगती नाही, पण मी सुरू ठेवू इच्छितो.

सुरूवात and प्रारंभ both are synonyms, yet प्रारंभ is more used formally.

The verb होणे has different meaning when used in different contexts. झाले/झाला/ झाली is simple past tense of होणे.

Meanings of होणे:

1. to happen.

2. to pass, when we are talking about passing of time, we can use this verb होणे.

3. to give birth. Also the same verb is used in the meaning - to give birth.

4. to feel.

1. to happen.

1. Accident happened/occurred = अपघात झाला.

2. to pass, when we are talking about passing of time, we can use this verb होणे.

1. One month has passed = एक महिना झाला आहे or एक महिना झाला. Both are okay. First one is more accurate considering the meaning intended in English sentence.

2. 5 minutes have passed = 5 मिनिटे झाली आहेत or 5 मिनिटे झाली. Both are okay.

3. to give birth. Also the same verb is used in the meaning - to give birth.

1. She gave birth to a female child = तिने एका मुलीला जन्म दिला. or तिला एक मुलगी झाली. Both forms are used.

2. She gave birth to twins = तिला जुळी मुले झाली. or तिने जुळ्या मूलाना जन्म दिला.

4. to feel any emotion

1. I felt happy. = मला आनंद झाला.

2. She felt sad = तिला दु:ख झाले.
