Improving students’ spoken presentation: a proposal
task: students at your college have to give a spoken presentation as part of their final assessment and need some help. The school director has invited you to send a proposal outlining any problems students have with presentations and suggesting how these problems could be overcome
Introduction:
In this proposal I will assess the current situation with regard to students’ spoken presentation difficulties and propose some solutions for them.
Composing presentations’ content
For the time being, not all students are able to build their speech texts coherently enough, so an extra lesson needs to be devoted to creating a presentation plan and ways of logical connection between its parts.
Eloquence abilities
Even studious speakers produce a poor impression on the audience if their presentation is inaudible, if they stutter, blush and look dubious. A possible solution could be an eloquence training which would contribute their self-esteem. The training should cover topics such as vocal and body control as well as recommendations for apparel. In addition, there should be provided some tips on how to overcome shyness and fear of public speaking. Furthermore, it would be useful for students to learn how to make presentations lively and enthralling. The training should contain both theory and practice, so the students could acquire extra experience before actual presentation.
Device training
Even a fascinating presentation can fall through if there occur technical issues, so the students should have be informed beforehand which application and editions to use in order to avoid incompatibility on the school computer. They should also have a chance to trial their slides and other visual and audial materials before their speech.
