Relationship Issues. I have a long-distance relationship and we use messenger or whatsapp to chat during the day. The problem is when the night come... He has a lot of things to do in the afternoon and evening and when he comes home I assume that it would be a nice time to talk about our day, but he always fall asleep without saying that he is going to sleep. I've tried not to worry about it or even not to feel bothered by this situation but, I hate when it happens. I've talked with him about this and his answer is always the same: "I can't control it, I just fall asleep"... It has started to bother me because I think that he doesn't feel motivated to talk with me, because what he does outside doesn't represent a high level of stress or physical effort. He just goes to a church o have meetings with people from his religion, then they chill out in any of theirs homes... He says that he loves me and, I believe him, but this situation sucks. What do you think about it?

I have a long-distance relationship and we use (1) Messenger or Whatsapp to chat during the day. The problem (2) comes  when the at night come... He has a lot of things to do in the afternoon and evening and when he comes home, I assume that it would be a nice time to talk about our day, but he always fall asleep without saying that he is going to sleep. I've tried not to worry about it or even not to be feel bothered by this situation, but I hate it when it this happens. I've talked to with him about this and his answer is always the same: "I can't control it, I just fall asleep..." It has started to bother me because I think that he doesn't feel motivated isn't (3) eager to talk to with me: because what he does outside doesn't face represent a high level of stress or need to exert a lot of physical effort in his daily activities. He just goes to a church to have meetings with fellow churchgoers, people from his religion then they chill out in one of their any of theirs homes... He says that he loves me, (4)and I believe him, but this situation sucks. What do you think about it?

Hi Alberto,

Just some comments here for your writing:

(1) We capitalise the first letter of "Messenger" and "Whatsapp" as they are names of specific apps (proper nouns).

(2) The problem occurs regularly at night; therefore, I used "comes" after "problem" (i.e. The problem comes at night.).

(3) "motivated" describes someone who has a strong desire to do something, especially with the expectation of some kind of reward. Therefore, I used "eager" instead to mean a strong desire to do something that is enjoyable and interesting.

(4) The comma (,) is placed before "and". "He says that he loves me" is a main clause; similarly, "I believe him" is another main clause. We connect two main clauses properly using a comma (,) and a connector.

I hope this helps.

He loves you, but he has his own priorities. You should put on and agree.

It bothers me too, people use to leave the conversation without saying goodbye or see you later, but I guess it's a thing of this generation, that are use to be all the time online. I guess the best thing to do is to accept it and try to get used to it.

I can empathise with your situation. I was in a long-distance relationship once and the time zones can really be a hassle. Perhaps you can let him know that some sacrifices have to be made for a relationship to stay alive! otherwise, why bother to be in a relationship? Let him know that it bothers you. How he wants to work this out is up to him. All the best and stay lovely. :)
