Hi everyone, I need help with some words I encountered in the reading a while back. They all have to do with the motion of the body or body parts. Please explain and give examples. I appreciate any help you can provide. Jab, hammer, whisk, flop, flap, flick, flit.

Jab: This is like poking someone quickly and forcefully. For example, "He jabbed his finger at the map to show where we are." Hammer: This is like hitting something hard and repeatedly. For example, "He hammered his fist on the desk to get everyone's attention." Whisk: This is like moving something quickly. For example, "She whisked the crumbs off the table with her hand." Flop: This is like falling down in a clumsy or relaxed way. For example, "After running around, the tired dog just flopped onto the floor." Flap: This is like moving something up and down quickly. For example, "The child flapped his arms like wings of a bird." Flick: This is like making a quick, small movement. For example, "She flicked a bug off her sleeve with her finger." Flit: This is like moving lightly and swiftly. For example, "The butterfly flitted from flower to flower in the garden."

6. Flick: Definition: A quick, sudden movement, especially a light brush or hit, often caused by a sudden jerk of the wrist. As a noun, it can also refer colloquially to a movie. Examples: She flicked a speck of dust off her sleeve. We're going to see a flick at the cinema tonight. 7. Flit: Definition: To move swiftly and lightly, often from one place to another. This term is often used to describe the flight pattern of small birds or insects. Examples: The hummingbird flitted from flower to flower, drinking nectar. She's always flitting around the globe, it's hard to keep track of her. Clarification: While some of these words may seem similar, particularly those relating to movement (flap, flick, flit), each has a distinct meaning. "Flap" refers to a more vigorous, often noisy motion like a bird moving its wings. "Flick" involves a quick, subtle motion, often a brief touch or hit. "Flit" implies a swift, light movement, often bouncing from one place to another. Similarly, "flop" refers to a heavy, loose, and often uncontrolled fall or movement. These differences are mainly due to the intensity, control, and direction of the motion they represent.
