Have you ever heard "Space Solar Power Systems[SSPS]" or "Space-Based Solar Power[SBSP]"? I didn't know the system, but I would like to share it here since I came across an article online about this.
The researching and development boom has arrived and come to an end repeatedly so far even though it was said to be "A Dream Power Generation".
SSPS is a grand vision as if it is a Science Fiction. A lot of huge solar power panels are placed in the space. The system transforms power generated by the panels into microwaves or laser beams. After that, it sends them to the earth and re-transforms them into power generation to use as an energy. Many companies are working on the system and they are shooting for around 2050 to put it to practical use. When satellites with huge solar panels are placed in stationary orbit with an altitude of 36,000km, they can generate power day and night because the earth hardly hides the sun from the panels. On top of that, the system can utility solar power energy about 10 times than on the earth since sunlight are never affected by damping due to air. However, the system needs to launch the satellite with solar panels of 2 or 3 km squares to gain 1GW(1 million kilo watts). The satellite weighs up to about 30,000 tons.
I'm not sure if the system works in the future and how much it contributes to carbon neutral, but I really hope everybody can use the power with affordable price
