Follow suit = to act in the same way or manner as others, to act according to everyone's expectation, to act like you always have in the past The term comes from card games using a standard deck of playing cards. The deck has four suits (hearts, diamonds clubs and spades) and many games require each player after the first player to "play" a card of the same suit that the first player started that round with. This is called following suit.
