왜. What and Why? Also in dramas I hear 왜 a lot. It is sometimes translated as "why" and sometimes it is translated into "What". I learned 왜 as why and 뭐 as What. So is it possible for 왜 to be used as both why and What? ex: 뭐하는거야? 난 웃고 있어. 왜? (What are you doing? I'm laughing! Why?) Ex: If someone is staring at them they would say "왜?!" But it would be translated as" What?!!"

왜: the meaning of this word is WHY 웬: the meaning of this word is WHAT we prounounce both of them in the same way if it is colloquial( our daily language) but in the school hangeul it pronouces diffrently ( 왜: wey/ 웬: wain) thats how i know it :)

i think it just depends in culture. lol in my country if someone starring at us, we will say "why?", "why u starring at me?". sometimes we will use "what" too. so it's depends on the translator for the drama! lol
