Advice for introducing my 1 year-old nephew to Spanish
I would love to introduce a second language to my nephew as I know the earlier the start the better. I know ideally a child would learn from listening/interacting with bilingual parents, but as I'm just a beginner it's difficult! Should I try to use simple Spanish phrases when speaking to him? Maybe buy some Spanish language cartoons for him to watch/spanish childrens books to look at? Or are there any good books to help in this situation?
Thanks

That's a very good idea, specially the cartoons. What I think you should be carefull is when you speak to him in spanish, because it's true that a kid learn faster than us, but if you make a mistake and he learn it he will have to delete that knoledge and learn it again, it would be twice harder haha
Good luck! any doubts about Spanish just ask me!!

Hi!! Yes, you're right! Kids learn very fast and they can surprise us!!
I recommend you music in Spanish (for kids) and play the music while he's doing other activities, you can also sing with him :)
I like Miss Rosi, she's peruvian:

Cartoons are very good, too. I love Dora the explorer... Maybe now she's old but you can search for something similar on Youtube.
And one last thing, let him learn the language like playing :)
Good luck!!!

First of all congratulations. I wish I had an uncle like you when I was a child!
I have read a lot on raising multilingual children since I am portuguese and my girlfriend is turkish. I imagine it will be harder in your case since Spanish is not your native language, still you should totally try it. This will also act as a motivator for you to keep learning.
I would suggest to expose him to spanish cartoons and children books. Hope thE page below also provides you with some advice:

I think the ideal situation would be to inscribe him in a biligual Spanish-English nursery/school, if that's not possible then I suggest you to interact normally with him in Spanish as you would do with any other English kid. Buying him some Spanish cartoons or books to read isn't a bad idea either. ¡Suerte con tu sobrino! ;-)
