* adverb 무섭다 / 두렵다 * verb 겁나다 = (무섭다 + 두렵다) to be scared, to be seized with fear They are almost same in meaning. But there is the tiny difference between them. I hope you can find it the following sentences. When somethig or someone give you horror straightly, so you are seized with fear, you can say 무섭다. And when you are thinking of something (in the near future), and so you have a feeling of uneasiness or horror, you can say 두렵다. * 무서운 영화 a horror film / 무서운 이야기 a dreadful story / 무서운 괴물 a scary monster 나는 뱀이 무섭다 I am afraid of snakes 그가 화내면 무서워 He is scary when he is angry. 동화가 어린이들에게 너무 무서운가요? Are fairytales too scary for children? 이 큰 집에서 혼자 있는 것은 무섭다 It's scary being all alone in this big house. * 두렵다 두려운 순간 a scary moment / 두려운 생각 a feeling of dread fear 나는 그도 떠날까봐 두려웠다 I was so afraid he was gonna leave too. 나는 죽는 것이 두렵다 I am afraid of death. * 겁나다 We don't use the form of "겁나는 + noun ... " in this case. 개가 겁나서 들어가지 못했다 I could not enter for fear of the dog. 그녀에게 사실을 말하기가 겁나요 I'm scared to tell her the truth.
