大体上没有什么差别。 但是，“懂”可以用来表示更深入的那种理解，比如，如果你想说，你理解一个人的内心，可以说“我懂你。” 如果只是表面上的一般的理解，适合用“明白”。比如：“在文字上，我明白这个句子的意思。”

明白：1 【形容词】内容清楚，清晰，摆在表面。2【动词】 认为“明白【1】”。 懂：理解，了解，体会到，认识到。 一般来说，能理解认识的事物应该是清楚明白的，所以“懂”和“明白”意思很相近。但是人们也有可能“懂”一些并不“清楚”、不“摆在表面”的不“明白”的事情。 比如“我懂你” 人心微妙，是不容易描述的，但是却能被特定的人理解。

The two words has similar meaning, and can be used. But in some cases one word is favoured more than the other. It's almost the same as: "Do you COMPREHEND this?" （你懂吗？）compared to "Do you UNDERSTAND this?" （你明白吗？） PoLo's example, 你明白他吗 is more correct, as it is: "Do you understand him?" which sounds better to 你懂他吗？ "Do you comprehend him?"
