why being sorry, when hearing some sad news about some one?? Hello, when a person ask some one else about one of his/her relatives' health (for example) , and that person reply "he is dead!" then the person who asked the question say "I am sorry". actually that reply is weird for my culture as we say something else at the same situation. i want to know why being sorry ? although he/she just asked the question without knowing or expecting that sad answer? what i know about being sorry is that it be when someone make bad think and come back to apologize or when excusing .. thank you

We usually feel bad that we didn't know. 1st reason is because we probably didn't go to the funeral and pay our respects. We also just feel sorry because we made them remember something they might not want to. (Because it's difficult to get over a loss of someone) If you have any questions feel free to ask!

To Allah we all belong and to him we will return >> (Ena lillah wa ena elaihe rage'oon Or Allah ye7amoh >> may Allah (God) bless his/her soul ..........these are really nice words to say - for religious people , spread peace and love in between them.

كما تعلمين، نحن دولة متدينة .. لذلك ردنا يكون في إطار الدين to Allah we all belong and to him we will return (Ena lillah wa ena elaihe rage'oon إنّا لله و إنّا إليه راجعون او نقول له "البقاء و الدوام لله" "Albaka2 wa al dawam lillah" أو نقول Allah ye7amoh الله يرحمه may Allah (God) bless his/her soul it is really nice words to say - for religious , spread peace and love in between them

This is a really interesting question. I think that a person might choose to say, "I'm sorry" when they hear bad news from another person because they feel sad about what has happened to the other person. I'm curious to know about your culture. What would you say if you asked about a person's health and someone told you that that person was dead? What is the Arabic word/phrase that you would use? I can read the Arabic writing. So, you can write in Arabic if you want or in English. Thanks. God bless you. Have a good day. :)

thank you, sure we feel sad for any one's death even if he/she is not from our relatives or friends' circle. because he/she had people who love him/her or live with. but my question was about the the use of the word "sorry" not being sorry with the known meaning. thanks for your contribution.
