What is the difference between buyao and bie? 不要 vs 别, which one is used in "don't be angry", "don't give up", etc?

Both are correct and common. No difference. 别/不要生气/放弃. You can use either. 不要 can be used to mean "not want/need". e.g. 我不要钱. In such a case, it actually consists of TWO words, 不 and 要.
