とはいえ： Although it is said that, even though it is said that, admitting that, that being said, however, nevertheless 「AとはいえB」＝「A is the fact, but actually B」 時間がなかったとはいえ、太郎にこれくらいのレポートが書けないはずがない。 (Even admitting that Tarou didn't have much time, I don't believe that he couldn't write a simple report like this). Same as といっても but: といっても is for spoken clauses, and とはいえ is for written clauses

「AとはいえB」の場合、Aから予想することとB（結果）が異なります。 例えば、 彼は不満らしい。とはいえ、全く反対ではないようだ。 --予想：不満らしいので反対だろう --結果：全く反対ではない 病気で寝込んだとはいえ、風邪を引いただけなので心配しなくてよい。 --予想：病気で寝込んだ->ひどい病気？ --結果：ただの風邪 彼の症状は回復に向かっているとはいえ、油断は禁物だ。 --予想：症状が回復に向かっている-->治りそうだな、大丈夫そうだな --結果：油断禁物 ちなみに、「とはいいながら」や「とはいうものの」「と（は）いっても」も同じ意味です。こちらの３つの方が話し言葉に近いです。
