I recently learned that there are some people who are on this site for the explicit purpose of aquiring your email address and your real name. This may lead to financial scams based on further communication with you through email or even identity theft.

So, what are the precautions you are taking when you communicate with someone you met on this site? Have you ever faced an ordeal as a result of giving out such information?

many ppl don't give their real name; i can't understand why, i can't see any harm in knowing each others name.
of course don't give personal information. but ur name isn't that personal. so ....
1- be a good lier and remember ur lie :D
2-just say i can't
3-say ur real name .... there won't be a harm (trust me no one will recognize u)

Maybe I should check my credit because sometimes I have e-mailed some people for language exchange and we have been talking for some weeks now. I have given my first name out and that's it. Acutally spelled it wrong to exact too. The e-mail address that I gave out is one I created just for this site and I rarely ever use, so not sure if they can get anything through that e-mail, I hope not.
