The word ever is usually used in two different ways. It can be used to mean "at any point in time" or to refer to something that happens at all times. Examples: (1) Have you ever met your cousin? (2) Ever the good student, John was shocked when he received a 70% on his test. Even is also a word that can have many different meanings based upon the context. These meanings change depending on whether you use it as a verb (to smooth or level), adverb (to stress a characteristic of something, stress a small amount, to compare, at that time, fully), or adjective (smooth with no bumps or indentations). Examples: (Verb) To make a great piece of woodwork, you must even out the wood. (Adverb) Sue is always in such a rush that she even forgot her glasses this morning.John, did you even try?(In the sentence before, even is used to point out that the amount of effort John put forth is very little) Even though Anne did well on her last test, this time she did even better. It continued to rain, even as the sun came out. I hope that this helped. I'm sorry if it confused you even more. There are many words in the English language that will vary the meaning based on what is being discussed.
