Edo was the city before its name has changed to Tokyo, it was like "old Tokyo". Now it doesn't exist but we sometimes use 江戸. 江戸っ子 literally means "the people from the city of Edo" but now it means "the people from Tokyo" especially the downtown of this city. I hope other people explain much better, anyway, I hope this was helpful.
