次第です This matter regarding 次第です is confusing me a little bit. Now first of all, there is an example in the book I use to learn Jap grammar, and it's "このたび担当が替わりましたので、あいさつにうかわった次第です” As far as I know, 次第 means "depend on", or "as soon as, immediately". And I find none of them appropriate for this sentence. I can pretty much understand the general idea without caring about that 次第です, it should literally be something like "because this time, I'm the one in charge, so I came to greet you guys". Sadly, the translating in the book is "I'm here to greet you because I'm the new person in charge", which is not helpful at all. So what exactly does 次第です mean this this case? 教えてくれ、知りたいことがある。よろしくお願いします。x_x, I'm sorry, it's ”伺った”, not "うかわった”. I make stupid mistakes sometimes, すみません、すみません。I mentioned "immediately" in my thread, and now when I think twice about it, it's not bad at all. "so I came here immediately to greet you guys". Is that it?

I guess you accidentally used a bit offensive expressions in your question. It should be like this わからないので教えてください. Anyway, 次第 means 'the state of things' or 'circumstances'. 次第 is used when to explain situations or reasons or circumstances. Your sentence is: このたび担当が替わりましたので、あいさつに伺った次第です。 This could be put this way: このたび担当が替わりましたので、あいさつに伺った「というわけ(訳)」です。 So, your guess was right!

sigh, another stupid mistake, that "So what exactly..." should be after "shiritai koto..." I don't know what I was thinking, really. I wanted to type some Jap at the end I just ended up making it looking more stupid, guess I'll just type full Eng or full Jap (if possible) if I ever ask anything again. -__-
