蝦夷(えみし)というのは日本北方の民族の総称で、近代では「アイヌ族」とほぼ同じ意味で使われています。「カムイ」というのはアイヌ語で、精霊もしくは神(キリスト教などの一神教の神とは違います)を意味します。「アイヌ族」は今でも存在します。 Northern minorities were called as 'Emishi(蝦夷)'. In the history of recent hundreds years, Emishi has almost the same meaning as Ainu. In the Ainu language, Kamui means spirits or gods.
