Use the word in brackets so that the second sentence has the same meaning as the first one.
Could you please complete the second sentence so that it has the same meaning as the first sentence?
(use the word in brackets)
He obviously wasn't successful at the interview - he looks miserable. (can't)
Many thanks

I am not a native speaker, but very used to rewriting sentences like this
I think the answer is
He can´t have been successful at the interview , he looks miserable
It is testing one of the usages of the modal " can´t , showing deduction based on evidence ( how miserable he looks)
Hope it helps

Hello Gloria,
Another past modal! He can't have succeeded at the interview ...
Can't is a modal of deduction in this case.
Best wishes
Bob
