I think it can be rephrased as;
It takes student much time to be at school.
But I want to put it another way
Schools occupy a large amount of teenagers' time in the day.
How should I say it?

I would say "School takes up a large part of a teenagers day"

"It takes student much time to be at school." doesn't make sense.
