It is a word or expression that is said unconsciously when someone gives a speech and forgets the idea that he wanted to express. This word generally says nothing and is used to avoid silence

In English, we call "muletillas" fillers or filler words. A filler word is a meaningless word, phrase, or sound that marks a pause or hesitation in speech. Common filler words in English are um, uh, er, ah, like, okay, right, and you know. (ie: I went to the store and...uh...like....she didn't buy anything). Some examples in Spanish are: este, pues, es que, viste, vale, etc.

To say a "muletilla" means you say a word unconsciously at the end of a sentence. The most popular muletillas in Spanish are: - ¿Vale? - ¿Lo entiendes o no? - ¿Sabes o no? - Tío/iyo/chaval (very informal and depends of the geography where you live in Spain) - And more... Most of them depends of where you life in Spain.
