常用漢字表では、「他」は「た」としか読みません。 しかし、常用漢字表は一般的な用途を制限するものではなく、公文書などを書く上での指針です。 国語辞典には「ほか」で「他」が「外」とともに出てきます。 広辞苑にも「ほか」として「他」が挙げられています。 so , both of them are correct , but 「そのほか」is more formal than 「そのた」. その他大勢（and many others）is a very special phrase , just remember it . unless 「その他大勢」, whenever you are not sure the pronounciation of 「その他」, it would not be incorrect to read as 「そのほか」.
