What's the difference between "how to be in the here and now" and "how to be present"?
But it was more than that. It(meditation) taught me — it gave me a greater appreciation, an understanding for the present moment. By that I mean not being lost in thought, not being distracted, not being overwhelmed by difficult emotions, but instead learning how to be in the here and now, how to be mindful, how to be present.
"The here and now" means "the present time." But I assume that "how to be in the here and now" and "how to be present" could be slightly different. Does "how to be in the here and now" focus on the present time, instead of the past or the future, while "how to be present" focus on the way how to live at the present? Thank you!

Being In The here and now is an idiom that we americans use to say..
" Live in today", dont worry about tomorrow or yesterday. Enjoy today, enjoy the moment.
Live for today = Live in the present= Live in the moment= Live in the here and now.
