Personally, I use from.
From=neutral or formal
off=casual.
A: Hey Jill, where did you get the recipe for these vodka cocktails?
B: I downloaded it off the internet.
A: Ms. Sanders, did you download the architectural blueprints?
B: Yes, I downloaded them from our servers.
