"Prescription" in the meaning of "ancient or long continued custom"?
Today I met the word "prescription" that in the context meant "ancient or long continued custom". Could you please elaborate on how you use this word in this meaning in everyday life? And please give some example sentences.

Your definition doesn't fit the word at all. There is a legal term that relates to customary use or behaviour, but its meaning is very specific and technical. What was the text and where did you find it?

Prescription cannot itself mean "custom", but a custom can prescribe behavior. OxfordDictionaries allows a tertiary meaning as "a recommendation that is authoritatively put forward", which could describe tradition very well:
For example:
1) "Tradition prescribes against working on the holiday."
2) "Our customs are a prescription for harmonious living."
This is not a very common use of the word, and seems stiff and formal. You'll run into it sometimes in American literature written between the 1880s and 1950s.

These days prescription means a set of instructions given to some one, usually by a doctor on how to take certain medications.
For example; the pharmacist prescribed panadol tablets for John's headache
