"Hi" or "hey" is common where I am from. "Hello" is not as common. When meeting for the first time, I usually say "Hi, I'm Jason." Sometimes, after exchanging names, I'll say "Nice to meet you." When greeting a friend or co-worker I already know, it's a bit different. Where I'm from, we typically ask how things are going. I'll use your name as an example.
