This is a quote from Charles dicken's Bleak House: “Here you see me utterly incapable of helping myself, and entirely in your hands! I only ask to be free. The butterflies are free. Mankind will surely not deny to Harold Skimpole what it concedes to the butterflies!” (Chpt. VI, p. 58) Mr. Skimpole, who borrows money from everyone, claims that he is not interested in the material side of life. He also claims that he is too refined and artistic to be involved in money matters. He uses a philosophy of freedom to hide his irresponsibility.
