I need some good suggestions for gifts (not too expensive) to bring with me to Brazil for my hosts.
I have gotten books that they selected and some childrens books, American flag stickers, and quarters with different states on them. I was thinking about jelly belly jelly beans because I read that they don't have jelly beans. I will also be visiting a language school and wanted some gifts to leave there too. If someone has relatives or friends in Brazil, perhaps they will know what would be special to receive. t-shirts? candy? music? hand cream or cosmetics? maple syrup? I don't want to bring something that they can get at home. What do you think?Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. Thanks for reminding me, Alexandre, about "American" vs "United States". Canadians don't like us referring to ourselves as American either. I am already practicing "Eu sou dos Estados Unidos" instead of Eu sou Americana. =)

I like the keychain idea. What did you mean by NASA's little things? Are you referring to the space program?
Also, I plan to get a small notebook type computer and leave it. I can change the keyboard language and get stickers for the keyboard. I've been told by my hosts that computers are more expensive there. Is this so?

for young people t-shirts and key rings to put in your backpack. They love it.

Look, brazilians love every kind of gift, to be honest.
Hahaha.
But one thing that we don't have here and that people always want to taste is peanut butter. I guess it would be very appreciated.
But as Alexandre said, if you are going to a big city, we prob have lots of products.

Well.. We do have jelly beans and we love it, any short of candies are very welcomed, but American flag stickers is not a good idea. If they are teenagers, some will love those “I love NY” like things, but others do not. What about keychains? Postcards?
Cosmetics and must of US Music/movies/tv shows are available here. Also any kind of gun like toys are illegal here.
Where are you going? because if you are coming to São Paulo, Rio city or south of Brazil it is difficult to think in something that will not be found here.

Brazilian people are not much different from people from US, but if you say "América" here, it will be related to the continent, never to USA. Books are a very nice gift, but not from US formal (official?) history, almost of us already knows it very well, but US’s literature or tour guides are very welcomed. I love books, but simple souvenirs are also very nice, I would love those NASA‘s little things. You could try to figure out what subject is more interesting to your future hosts, as I said we are very like US people.

Some guys that came from USA and Canada used to call my friends by “Latin” or sometimes “chico or tiko/liko”, all the time. I don’t know what it supposed to mean but I hate it at all! Please, avoid it in here.
I know that may be a very specific circumstance, but be careful, especially if you are not coming to Rio de Janeiro city, where people are more interested in tourists.
