"mayabang" is translated in english as "braggart" or "boastful" or "show off". more often than not, "mayabang" is viewed negatively when describing someone. However, there could be some positive impressions of being "mayabang" sometimes but it doesn't necessarily mean "charming". "charming" in tagalog is "kaaya-aya" or ("kaakit-akit" - nowadays however, viewed negatively). :)

mayabang can sometimes mean like something good when teasing somebody in the informal language of us (teens). For example, that person is showing off like being the top natcher in his/her class, you can say " whoo, mayabang!" it also mean as saying, you're great but your boastful ! ahahah gets? we use it as positive word sometimes! :D
