In these sentences, "working" and "work" are nouns. You can use either one. They mean the same but feel quite different. Present participles create images in the mind. I would argue that that is their principal function in the English language. "Working" creates an image of a person working - of something ongoing and happening - that "work" simply does not do. #1 sounds more descriptive. #2 sounds more factual.
