Hello! I'm a native Japanese speaker from the Kanto area (Tokyo/Kanagawa). I’m patient, kind, and love helping others communicate in Japanese. My goal is to help you speak confidently and enjoy the learning process.
I’ve been inspired by amazing teachers during my own studies, which led me to teach Japanese through volunteer work and language exchange. I’m excited to share what I’ve learned and help you on your journey.
I recently completed a 420-hour online Japanese course in April 2025.

While grammar is important, my lessons emphasize practical conversation you can use right away. I will tailor the lessons to your interests—whether it’s culture, travel, or casual chats.

I've had a great experience with Sawa-sensei! They have a fantastic personality and are genuinely interested in helping you learn. They pay close attention to pronunciation and correct your mistakes, making sure you understand by providing explanations in Japanese.
The lessons don't have to be rigid for you to learn a lot. Recently, we've been playing a videogame in Japanese together, which has been incredibly effective for learning new vocabulary/kanji, and grammar. This way it's a really interactive 'you are actually using this vocab now' experience instead of random words in a textbook people may not actually use.
I highly recommend Sawa-sensei to anyone looking to improve their Japanese!

I can't believe it's been a year!! My Japanese has improved so much since I've started taking lessons with Sawa-sensei. All the times we enjoyed talking about the differences in culture and playing games together. Even if I was having a really rough week, I always looked forward to the lesson and it brightened up my day. I'm so grateful to have found her not only as a teacher, but also as a friend. Here's to many more lessons!

最初のレッスンはとても楽しかったです。私は自己紹介をして、先生は質問をしました。リラックスして日本語で話すことができると思いました。私は何度もミスしたが、先生は親切で忍耐でした。ぜひまたレッソンを予約します。
I had my first lesson with Sawa-sensei and it was fun! I introduced myself, and she asked questions. I could relax and speak in Japanese and even though I made mistakes, she was kind and patient. I'll definitely book a lesson with Sawa-Sensei again.

Sawa-san is a really friendly and engaging teacher. What I really like is she gives you the time to think and come up with your own words. Even if you're struggling, it's really helpful to have a teacher that's willing to give you the time to think on your own without resorting back to English.
During the lesson, she also helps to correct and rephrase your sentences to sound more natural. I really appreciated her enthusiasm in this first lesson and I look forward to taking even more lessons with her.
