My name is Alicia Carter. My family immigrated from Germany to the U.S.A. in the mid 19th century, and I have always been fascinated by Germany and its culture. In high school, with the guidance of an excellent German teacher, I fell in love with the language itself. I studied German at the College of Wooster, earning a B.A., then went on to earn an M.A. and Ph.D. in German language and literature at the Ohio State University (in 2003). I began teaching the German language as a Teaching Assistant at OSU in the early 1990s, which means that I have been teaching German at the university level for more than a quarter century!翻訳を表示する

In the words of Joseph Campbell, we human beings do best when we "follow our bliss." Throughout my adult life, teaching, and particularly teaching German, has been my bliss. I was fortunate to recognize teaching as my vocation when I was in college, and l had excellent training in language pedagogy when I was accepted as a teaching assistant at Ohio State's graduate program. I am at my happiest and most fulfilled when I am teaching a language class, whether face to face or online (a modality in which I became proficient during the Covid epidemic). For years I have had excellent teaching evaluations from my students, whether in the classroom or in one on one tutoring.レッスン形式・教え方
I was trained in the communicate method of teaching. I believe that conveying meaningful communication is at the heart of learning to use language. I am able to adapt my teaching methodology and activities to individual students with different learning styles and abilities. My goal in teaching is to encourage all my students, to help them overcome the inevitable fear of "making mistakes," and, in fact, to help them understand that making mistakes and learning a language go hand in hand. I believe that humor and laughter are vital to helping students be comfortable and motivated, and during my years of teaching I have had tremendous success creating a classroom where students feel safe.教材

Learning German with Alicia was an amazing experience. She is super funny and energetic. She truly loves the German language and has a passion for teaching. I highly recommend her for anyone trying to learn German or English!

Alicia was interesting, kind, patient, and did not let the conversation lag. She took charge, and chose a good direction. She gave me food for thought, and lots of needed compliments. I’m sure that she can take you from where you are, to where you want to go!

I had a trial lesson today with Alicia. We had a lot of fun getting to know each other and speaking German! She made wonderful notes which helped me to form my sentences when responding to her questions, gave good feedback on word order, and we discussed the past tense. I plan to book more classes with her, as the trial lesson was very helpful and enjoyable.

I had an absolutely wonderful trial lesson with Alicia!! Words are not enough to describe how lovely she is.
Meeting new tutors is always a nerve wracking thing, but Alicia got me comfortable almost immediately. We talked about my learning history and my goals, and one thing i must say is that she is such a perceptive and engaging tutor. It probably comes from her many many years of teaching students German.
She speaks very clearly, gives examples, corrects you gently, and does not shame you for not knowing things. I couldn’t recommend her enough!!!
