Maria Belen Chavez

I highly, highly recommend María. She is a fantastic teacher and a warm, joyful person who makes you feel comfortable right away. I started classes with María with some informal exposure to Spanish and goals to learn Latin American Spanish and understand the Chilean accent for having conversations. My classes with her have been the perfect fit for that, combining casual conversation, thoughtfully structured lessons, and Chilean Spanish. If it's any indication, my partner who speaks Chilean Spanish has been impressed by my progress. And having spent many years learning another foreign language, I've also been very happy with my progress and María's approach to teaching, which seems cutting-edge. Gracias María!

I remember the first class I took with Maria and I thought it would be so difficult because I did not know any spanish to begin with and I also wasn't sure about one on one lessons. lol Then, as time went on I seen that she actually put in effort to get to know my learning style. She wasn't like most teachers who read from a book all the time and that's it. She asks you things and actually takes into consideración what you would like and how you learn next thing you know we are sharing recipes in español and songs..Two things I love. Eating and singing is two of the things I enjoy the most and come to find out she loves it too:) So, if you do decide to take this Journey with her just know lo vale la pena:)

In today's lesson, María taught me how to reason and think in Spanish, not just memorize and parrot material. She has a talent for and has clearly cultivated the ability to make students feel comfortable and like they can truly be themselves in her tutoring sessions. She actively listens with care and attention to detail to the person (the student) to whom she is talking. She is also on-time and prepared for our lessons. In short, I can't recommend María enough!

María is an excellent teacher. I am studying abroad in Chile soon and she has done so much to help me prepare. I am very thankful for her guidance, her organization, her positive energy and her knowledge. She has taught me about the culture, vocabulary, medical system, and food in Chile. I feel much more equipped for my journey!

Maria is great! She always comes prepared with a great lesson and encourages me to speak freely and easily facilitates the conversation. She is very encouraging but also helps me correct my grammar when necessary
