That's low-key the secret sauce of teaching~ and, to be honest, it's really hard to do well. That's why I appreciate our classes. 선생님 facilitates a classroom that feels superrrrrrrrrr (ten Rs!) welcoming and open, and where I feel comfortable making mistakes (because I know 선생님 will give me the appropriate feedback) and asking literally ANY question (because 선생님 will always give it to me straight). 😊 It could be because 선생님 knows the struggles of learning several languages not her own—and there's a real humility that comes from the hustle and grind of memorizing vocabulary, learning grammar rules, and communicating what you want to say in a way that people will understand. There ain't no shortcuts to this language stuff, but there is a lot of room for creativity. 선생님 always reminds me of this. Thank you, 선생님 🤓

She is the QUEEN of Italki^^ I am beyond grateful to have such an amazing teacher who truly goes above and beyond in helping me grow. One of the standout qualities of this teacher is her keen ability to identify my weaknesses almost instantly and thoughtfully tailor lessons and provides targeted material to help me overcome those specific challenges. Each class feels like a step forward because the learning process is personalized, and I always leave with more confidence and a clearer understanding. Subin 선생님 is a really motivating facilitator and teacher. I didn't realize it until recently, but the speaking part comes a little easier these days, and it's these kinds of small things that remind me of the subtle ways that improvement shows up sometimes. My conversations with 선생님 have really elevated my confidence in speaking (in a controlled class/lesson setting still tho lowkey ngl) and putting together sentences in Korean. I also feel a lot more comfortable with key conversational sentence patterns because we get to (have to!!) practice using them in conversations about different topics. As a student, I find that the super organic/flexible nature of our conversations makes the learning space safe/comfortable and low-anxiety, too! 선생님 always comes through with interesting topics, questions, or ideas to jump-start the dialogue. We kind of go with the flow and then pick up any new vocabulary that comes up (& there is always so. much. vocabulary. fr. 🥲) based on the topic/theme.

As a teacher myself, I can say with confidence that Subin 선생님 truly has a gift for teaching. The lesson moves along so naturally, and she finds a way to incorporate grammar that I’m struggling with into our conversations. I appreciate the work she puts into our lessons and her materials are very helpful. It feels structured and organized, even without a boring textbook. Looking forward to the next lesson! :)

tl;dr 선생님 is pedagogically goat 🐐 lwk the 1st year of 한국말 공부 is the most fun bc you’re still infatuated with all the original reasons why you’re learning it. 하지만 one day in year 4, you that you can’t seem to remember what got you started. i mean, you remember, but it (or they) ain’t there like it (or they) used to be. 어쩔수 없지만 you’re still somehow in it, still telling everyone you wanna kdramamaxx without 자막 or whatever, but you hit a plateau. stuck in mid territory and it’s hella 답답하다. you can 말하다 but not fluently, 읽다 but not smoothly. you get by—maybe—if it’s 천천히. 암튼, you’re topik 3급 on a good day…헬라 midㅠ 선생님’s gonna push you (cheerfully) through the grind. 선생님's gonna remind you to hustle that whole-sentence memorization (but the fun sentences only that rekindle the motivation to 열심히 공부하다 again), to keep practicing the very thing you want to improve in case you run into your bias on the 길 one day or whatever. lwk just reminding you to learn how to learn—in a very 재밌게 way—again.

Subin 선생님 makes learning extremely fun! After trying to study on my own off and on for the past year I would lose motivation with just textbooks, so I decided to sign up for a class and I'm glad I found her! She is super engaging and makes learning exciting with lessons and materials custom to your level and an emphasis on speaking practice. I've found the passion for the language again!
