In this trial lesson we will get to know each other, and we will discuss your learning needs and preferences. Do you want to focus on increasing your vocabulary, grammar, listening, or reading skills? We determine your starting point and the goals you want to work towards. Hopefully we get along well so I can be your Dutch tutor!

In this conversation practice lesson, which is designed for A1-C1 students, we will have fun and engaging conversations to practice your Dutch speaking skills. We mainly focus on speaking but will also touch on a bit of grammar if necessary. Depending on your needs, we can practice reading and writing, too. It is optional to work with a book (Nederlands In Gang A0 to A2, Nederlands in Actie A2 to B1, or Nederlands op Niveau B1-B2) to give more structure to the lessons. This is great if you want to work on grammar while doing useful exercises. 

I provide extensive feedback during and after the class. During the class, we use a ‘whiteboard’ (in Google Drive) where I will write sentence-level feedback. After class, I will give you more general feedback that will help you understand your (grammar) mistakes that I upload to your personal folder. 

And... I hope you’re really motivated, committed, and excited to learn Dutch because I also give you homework assignments suited to your level to improve your writing, reading, or listening skills outside the lesson. This can be reading a recent news article, answering questions, or filling out missing words. It can also be watching a television program about Dutch culture or society that we will discuss in the next lesson. Homework takes about 30 to 60 minutes to prepare you for the next lesson. If you wish, I also provide a document with many other resources for reading, watching videos, podcasts, and useful websites or Dutch courses. 

For A0 or A1 students, I recommend doing a beginner’s course before or alongside starting conversation practice with me to make the most of your and my time. This is not a grammar course but an addition to your Dutch learning journey.

Dutch Conversation Practice - With extensive feedback and homework exercises to increase your confidence in speaking Dutch!

In this class I help you to feel and get ready for your Dutch A2 Inburgering exam or the B1 or B2 NT2 exam. You know how to read, write and/or listen, but you get nervous when you have to start speaking Dutch? I help you to get more comfortable and focus on basic sentences, like in the exam. 

We focus on all parts of the exam: reading, writing, listening and/or speaking or simply the part that you want to practice with most. We can also discuss the ‘Orientatie op de Nederlandse Arbeidsmarkt’ (ONA) or ‘Kennis van de Nederlandse Maatschappij’ (KNM) exam materials/books. I help you to understand Dutch society, work culture, and societal norms and values and can help you with any questions you have with these topics. 

I help you practice with the (online) tests available and help you understand the correct answers. I also create my own practice exams that are like the official NT2 test format. We practice with these tests or similar exercises. I will give you intensive feedback during and after the lesson.

I offer 45, 60, and 90 minutes lessons for this lesson type.

Test Preparation and Practice | A2, B1 or B2 NT2 Exam

In this class we focus on the basics to get you started in your Dutch learning journey: the Dutch alphabet, pronunciation of vowels and consonants, learning verbs and nouns that are used in daily life, and making basic sentences in the present tense. I adjust the pace of the class to your comprehension and learning style. 

We will use a book (pdf) designed for beginners, alongside extra materials that I create for my students, and/or adjusted to your level. If you are a beginner in Dutch and want to study with me, I ask that you spend at least 2 or 3 hours outside this lesson to prepare the homework I assign to you to be prepared for the next lesson. This way you can actually start to make progress. 

I recommend doing a beginner’s  (grammar) course before or alongside starting taking lessons with me to make the most of your and my time. This is not a complete grammar course but an addition to your Dutch learning journey.
