This flexible speaking course is designed for learners from beginner (A1) to advanced (C2) levels who want to improve real-life communication in Mandarin. Each class centers on a topic of your choice—whether it’s 节日 (jié rì) holidays, 旅游 (lǚ yóu) travel, or 购物 (gòu wù) shopping—and helps you talk naturally and confidently.

We focus on how people actually talk. Instead of stiff textbook words, you’ll learn lively, everyday phrases. For example:

In a 节日 chat: instead of saying 庆祝 (qìng zhù), you might just say 过节 (guò jié), or 热闹 (rè nào) to describe the vibe.

For 旅游, you’ll hear and use things like 能用了 (néng yòng le) when talking about phone cards or tickets, and 头条新闻 (tóu tiáo xīn wén) when sharing something exciting.

In 购物, instead of formal words like “negotiate,” we’ll use real speech like 挑三拣四 (tiāo sān jiǎn sì), 找麻烦 (zhǎo má fan), or even 太贵了 (tài guì le).

All vocabulary, pinyin, example sentences, and usage tips are recorded in a shared cloud note after every session, so you can review and grow your personal word bank over time. Each class adds around 25 useful expressions—grouped by topic and memory aids.

You’ll also have the option to make your own example sentences as homework to deepen your understanding and help the new words stick.

This advanced Chinese proofreading workshop is designed for learners at the B1–C2 level who seek to sharpen their linguistic intuition, refine stylistic accuracy, and develop a native-like sensitivity to nuances in written Chinese. Either bring your own draft materials or through targeted exercises, real-world texts, and peer-editing practice, participants will explore how word choice, register, and context influence meaning, clarity, and tone.

Key to this course is the study of near-synonyms that often confound even advanced learners. For example, consider 保证 and 保障, both frequently translated as “guarantee.” While 保证 (bǎozhèng) emphasizes a personal or institutional promise or assurance, such as “我保证按时完成任务” ("I guarantee the task will be completed on time"), 保障 (bǎozhàng) focuses more on the systemic protection or safeguarding of rights or conditions, as in “法律保障公民的权利” ("The law guarantees citizens' rights"). Learners will analyze such distinctions to improve not only comprehension but also precision in their own writing and editing.

HSK 1–3 Chinese Language Program

HSK-1 is designed for complete beginners and introduces about 150 basic words, simple grammar, and everyday topics such as greetings, family, numbers, and daily routines. Lessons are short, visual, and highly structured—ideal for visual and logical learners. By the end, students can handle simple exchanges and take the HSK-1 exam.

HSK-2 builds on this foundation with 300 total words and expanded grammar, including comparisons, ongoing actions, time expressions, and modal verbs. Learners begin talking about hobbies, health, schedules, and simple plans. It suits sequential and communicative learners who want more confidence in routine conversations.

HSK-3 raises learners to lower-intermediate level with 600 total words and richer grammar such as resultative/potential complements, directional phrases, and serial verbs. Students learn to express experiences, suggestions, emotions, and handle common everyday situations more independently. Completion prepares learners for the HSK-3 exam and smooth transition to higher-level study.

"Integrated Chinese 中文听说读写" is one of the most widely used Mandarin Chinese textbook series in North American (especially English speaking) classrooms. Designed primarily for high school and college students, it offers a comprehensive, communicative approach to learning Chinese as a foreign language. The series covers beginner to intermediate levels, corresponding roughly to HSK 1 through HSK 4 (though not aligned chapter-for-chapter with the HSK curriculum).

Levels Covered:

Volume 1 (Level 1 Part 1): True beginner level (equivalent to HSK 1)
Volume 2 (Level 1 Part 2): High beginner to low-intermediate (HSK 2–3)
Volumes 3 & 4 (Level 2 Parts 1 & 2): Intermediate learners (HSK 3–4)

This class introduces Sichuan dialect (四川话) as it is spoken in everyday life in Chengdu and surrounding areas. You’ll learn high-frequency daily expressions, pronunciation habits, and conversational patterns that differ noticeably from Standard Mandarin (普通话). The focus is on listening comprehension + practical speaking, not formal linguistics.

What you’ll learn

Common daily words and particles:
啷个 (how), 啥子 (what), 安逸 (comfortable/great), 雄起 (cheer up/go for it), 巴适 (very good), 要得 (okay), 不晓得 (don’t know)
