Trial lessons are shorter, reduced-price conversation sessions designed to help us get to know each other and for you to experience my teaching style. During the lesson, I will take notes and share feedback on grammar corrections, new vocabulary, and other English points that may be useful for your future studies. This course is tailored to your goals. You may emphasize any combination of the three focus areas below, shifting between lessons as needed. I prepare individualized content for each student based on your level and goals.

✨ Writing & Grammar
For new students without specific goals, I assign writing topics we review together to identify goals and a study plan of grammar points and practice assignments. For students with specific grammar goals, we dive deeper into grammar-focused classes based on key points from your writing. These skills help with speaking too.

✨ Structured Conversation
For beginners, we use prepared materials for vocabulary, English dialogues, and Q&A exchanges. For intermediate and advanced students, we use various materials for either (a) conversation practice or (b) extended speech practice, with corrections, vocabulary, and advice throughout.

✨ Pronunciation & Reading
Do you know all 39 consonant and vowel sounds of English? Can you read IPA in a dictionary? Can you speak with proper rhythm, intonation, stress, linked speech, and accent? Can you guess the pronunciation of a new word the way a native speaker would? If you want to improve in any of these aspects, this is for you.

CLASS NOTES: I am a comprehensive and habitual note-taker. I type up our key vocabulary, sentence structures, and grammar corrections during class, and share them with you afterward.

HOMEWORK: Regular writing assignments when writing & grammar is a focus. For other focus areas, homework is available by request at no charge.

I am a comprehensive and habitual note-taker. I will type up notes of our key vocabulary, sentence structures, and grammar corrections with you during class. I will share these notes with you after each class.

Do you have questions about English that only an English teacher can help you with? Do you need assistance writing an email or revising an essay? Are there words or grammar structures in English that you are just struggling to understand? Or, do you just want to practice conversation? This course combines writing, conversation, and pronunciation into one engaging class designed for young learners. We'll build vocabulary, practice speaking through guided dialogues, work on clear pronunciation of English sounds, and develop early writing skills—all paced to fit your child's level.

WHAT WE'LL DO:
- Speaking & Conversation: We'll use age-appropriate materials, pictures, and dialogues to practice questions, answers, and natural conversation.
- Pronunciation: We'll work on the sounds of English through listening, repetition, and reading exercises.
- Writing & Grammar: As your child progresses, we'll introduce simple writing tasks and key grammar points to support their reading and speaking.

👪 Kids English Classes (ages 6-13) 少儿英语课 （6-13岁）

Are you looking to perfect your pronunciation of Mandarin, tones, and ability to accurately read pinyin? In this class, we will work through all of the individual sounds of Mandarin as well as practice reading Mandarin together using level-appropriate texts. 

Mandarin is a challenging language with many nuances in pronunciation, so almost all language learners can benefit greatly from guided practice and feedback. Proper pronunciation can help any language learner take their current language skills and add that "wow factor" needed to impress locals, employers, or other native speakers.

Instruction is available with both simplified and traditional characters. Simplified characters are used in Mainland China, Singapore, and Malaysia. Traditional characters are used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. Many traditional characters are also used in Japanese.

📚 汉语拼音和发音 / 漢語拼音和發音 Pinyin & Mandarin Pronunciation

This class is aimed at beginner Mandarin Chinese learners (HSK1–HSK2), such as those who are working from scratch or have a vocabulary of only very basic words. Intermediate and advanced Chinese learners should seek a native speaker. If your level is higher than I can accommodate, I can give you italki teacher recommendations. 🙂

As a native English speaker who has worked very hard to master the nuances of Mandarin Chinese from scratch (as well as many other languages too), I understand all of the ins and outs of Mandarin language acquisition, as well as understand very well what it takes to become a competent Mandarin Chinese speaker. 

Classes with me are perfect for students who already speak English well and are looking to begin or accelerate their Mandarin learning journey. 

The ultimate goal of this course is to give you enough of a basis with pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, and conversation that you can comfortable continue your classes and lessons at the high intermediate to advanced levels with native Mandarin speakers, who will be able to help you develop your skills even further. This course can serve as an essential piece of the puzzle in your overall years-long language learning process.

Class is taught in English to accommodate to beginner and low-intermediate learners, but we will also use Mandarin as much as possible as well depending on your own personal level of language use and understanding.

📝 初级汉语 / 初級漢語 Introductory Mandarin Chinese for BEGINNERS

The International Association of Hyperpolyglots (HYPIA) is an international body representing the unique and growing population of hyperpolyglots worldwide. We adhere to the definition of Hyperpolyglots as preferred by the general consensus to mean “a person who is fluent in six or more languages.”  However, we expand our association to include persons who are conversant in eight or more languages. Although small, our association boasts some of the most talented emerging linguists worldwide.

Six semesters at Brandeis University, containing coursework towards my physics major, math major, and secondary education minor. I also took Chinese courses every semester.

This job gave me direct experience preparing and instructing lessons in a group class format to ages 14-17. I learned a ton about how to effectively format lessons to students who are struggling with acquiring new content and differentiating lesson structure to meet the needs of a wide variety of levels.

I have worked as an at-home one-on-one tutor for the past three years where I help students who are struggling with their classes, or are homeschooled, or need help preparing for an upcoming standardized exam. This experience has taught me a lot about how to meet students at their specific needs and tailor lessons based on what students find most difficult and what students could use the best practice on. It also has given me practice on how to properly pace for and assess student understanding.
