Contemporary travel phrases and survival language: practical expressions for transport, hotels, restaurants, directions, and emergencies (e.g., modern colloquial ways to ask for help, check in, and confirm reservations).
Expat slang and informal register: common anglicisms and slang used by expats, pragmatic functions (building rapport, signaling in-group membership), and when to avoid slang in formal/business contexts.
Business vocabulary and protocols: modern business expressions, calendaring and meeting language, telephone etiquette, small talk starters, titles and forms of address, negotiating politely but directly.
Cultural nuances and pragmatic rules: expectations around punctuality, gift-giving, directness vs. indirectness, hierarchical cues, and reading nonverbal signals.
Repair strategies and comprehension tactics: how to ask for clarification, slow speech, paraphrase, and use code-switching or shared English when needed.
