Littérature avec Isa

Se describe la celebración de la novena de aguinaldos, que son 9 días de reunión familiar para rezar y cantar villancicos. Se realiza en la víspera de l nacimiento del niño Jesús. Esta es una tradición que reune familias y amigos, y que tiene unos componentes muy interesantes de la cultura colombiana. 
Acá se  emplea vocabulario  y expresiones de navidad y se describe la relación familiar y social alrededor de una celebración.

Here’s how it usually goes:
• ¿Qué haces? (What do you do?)
• Yo soy… (I am…)

Note that in Spanish we tend to NOT use articles (a, an) when describing someone’s job title:
Yo soy profesora. (Literally: I am teacher)


The other thing we have to keep in mind whenever we’re describing someone is their gender. These are the most common word endings when it comes to occupations:

• Gender neutral endings:
ISTA: el artista / la artista, etc.
NTE: el estudiante / la estudiante, etc.

• Feminine vs. Masculine endings:
O / A: el secretario / la secretaria, etc.
OR / ORA: el profesor / la profesora, etc.


Okay! Now that the explanation is out of the way, let’s practice a little bit. I’ll say a couple of sentences and you need to figure out if I could be describing a man, a woman, or either one:

Es analista 📉
Es presidente 🏳️
Es veterinaria 🐾

It is a common courtesy to greet both customers and visitors to your business in a friendly and professional manner. It is also common sense that most companies expect their employees to act professionally and to pay great attention to how they greet visitors.

In any business situation, but especially in an international setting and when communicating in a foreign language, it is imperative that you also pay attention to the societal norms of different cultures and their customs.

For instance, in most western cultures, the handshake is a common greeting which is also used to conclude business dealings. In American culture, the handshake is a sign that a deal has been agreed upon by all parties, and politicians from all countries vie for the obligatory handshake photo opportunity with visiting dignitaries.

El león y el ratón

Había una vez un león que estaba durmiendo. Un ratón comenzó a correr sobre su cuerpo y lo despertó. El león, enfadado, atrapó al ratón con su gran garra. El ratón le suplicó al león que lo dejara ir, prometiéndole que algún día le devolvería el favor. El león, riéndose, lo dejó ir. Más tarde, el león fue atrapado en una red por unos cazadores. El ratón escuchó sus rugidos de ayuda y corrió para liberarlo, royendo la cuerda de la red. El león comprendió entonces que incluso los más pequeños pueden ayudar a los más grandes.
