揠苗助长[yà miáo zhù zhǎng]：pull;spoil/shoot/help/grow;to try to help the shoots grow by pulling them upward.
宋国 sòng guó：Song state in the Warring States Period (475-221 B.C.) in Chinese history.
嫌 xián：to dislike and avoid
庄稼 zhuāng jia：crops
拔高 bá gāo：pull upward
疲乏 pí fá：tired; exhausted
一大截 yī dà jié；a wide margin
枯死 kū sǐ：wither; dry up and die
This idiom also known as “拔苗助长[bá miáo zhù zhǎng]“.Literally means to do harm to a thing by being over-enthusiastic about it.

The Step Pyramid of Djoser

The pyramids are the most famous monuments of ancient Egypt and still hold enormous interest for people in the present day. These grand, impressive tributes to the memory of the Egyptian kings have become linked with the country even though other cultures, such as the Chinese and Mayan, also built pyramids. The evolution of the pyramid form has been written and argued about for centuries. However, there is no question that, as far as Egypt is concerned, it began with one monument to one king designed by one brilliant architect: the Step Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara.

Djoser was the first king of the Third Dynasty of Egypt and the first to build in stone. Prior to Djoser’s reign, tombs were rectangular monuments made of dried clay brick, which covered underground passages where the deceased person was buried. For reasons which remain unclear, Djoser’s main official, whose name was Imhotep, conceived of building a taller, more impressive tomb for his king by stacking stone slabs on top of one another, progressively making them smaller, to form the shape now known as the Step Pyramid. Djoser is thought to have reigned for 19 years, but some historians and scholars attribute a much longer time for his rule, owing to the number and size of the monuments he built.

The Step Pyramid has been thoroughly examined and investigated over the last century, and it is now known that the building process went through many different stages. Historian Marc Van de Mieroop comments on this, writing ‘Much experimentation was involved, which is especially clear in the construction of the pyramid in the center of the complex. It had several plans … before it became the first Step Pyramid in history, piling six levels on top of one another … The weight of the enormous mass was a challenge for the builders, who placed the stones at an inward incline in order to prevent the monument breaking up.’

はい、こんにちは。洋平先生です。え、今日も発音に関してお話したいと思います。今日はですね、Nと母音（ぼいん）、vowelですねえ、日本の母音は”あいうえお” ですよね。えー、その2つ、Nと母音をコネクトしてはいけません。”つなげて発音してはいけません” という話をしたいです。
これはですね、本当に英語を話す人にとても多いですね。
 
え~Nと母音をコネクトしてしまうと、日本語は、意味が変わってしまうものがあるんですね。え、例えば100円、これのNと母音をコネクトしてしまうとですね。 100年になるんですよ、これ、意味が全く違いますよね、100円と100年。

あと、他にも店員、店員、えーsales clearkですよね、をコネクトすると転任（てんにん）になります。 
転任（てんにん）はちょっと難しい言葉なんですけども、えー、transfer、会社の場所が変わること や、えー、会社の仕事の内容が変わること。えーっと、上司から、命令されて、内容や場所が変わることですよね。それを転任と言います。
 
で、他にも”婚約（こんやく）”、婚約は皆さんわかりますか。 
これは、結婚の約束をするという意味なんですけども、
これをですね。えーまあNと母音のコネクトというかですね、早く言ってしまうと、”こんにゃく” となる時があるんですよ。え、こんにゃくはですね、食べ物の名前です。英語でconjakというそうなんですが、 これも意味が違いますよね。
 
えー、じゃあ最後に原因（げんいん）、原因「悪い理由」のことですよね。
原因をこれも結構よく聞くんですけど、早く言うと ”げんにん” という生徒がよくいるんですよ。え、”げんにん” という言葉が(日本語には）ないんですけど、日本人の耳には”芸人（げいにんい）”って聞こえるんですよ。で、芸人はコメディアンという意味なんです。 で、これもよく本当にレッスンをしていたら、芸人芸人っていう生徒が多くて、「ん？コメディアンの話してますか？」てなっちゃうんですよね、
そうなんですよ。ですからNと母音はコネクトしてはいけないんですね、わかりますか。
 
じゃ、えーっとですね。今日はそのNと母音が、となり同士にある文を9つ用意しました。んで、ちょっと皆さんで練習しましょうね。
じゃあ、皆さんは先に読んでくださいね。じゃあ、私が後で読みます。はい、じゃあ1番、はい！ 
①本を呼んだ。
②何を食べた。
③1万円でメロンを買った。
④ロンドンへ行った。
⑤店員を呼んだ。
⑥恋愛をした。
⑦昼ご飯を食べた。
⑧病院へ行った。
⑨その原因は何だった。
 
はい、皆さんどうですか。コネクトせずにちゃんと読めましたか。「本を読んだ」ですよ。「本の読んだ」じゃないですよ。

＃8　日本語は　N（ん）と”あいうえお” をつなげて発音しません！

Japan has good public transportation.  It is very convenient except the morning rush hour. 
Today I'm going to talk about my commuter train.

私は仕事で大阪に行くとき、電車に乗ります。
家から１０分ほどのところに駅があります。そこから大阪までは２０分ぐらいです。
すぐ着きます。
朝のラッシュ時間は、１０分ぐらいの間に特急、急行、普通電車が順番に来ます。
とても便利です。
私は仕事がら、１日中立って仕事をするので、電車ではいつも座りたいと思っています。
私が電車に乗る駅は　特急が止まる駅です。特急に乗れば、大阪まで１５分ぐらいで着きます。でも、特急は混んでいるので座ることができません。だから、急行に乗ります。急行でも２０分ぐらいで大阪に着きます。
それから、地下鉄に乗ります。私が乗る地下鉄は大阪でも乗る人が多い路線です。
御堂筋線といいます。　
こちらも朝のラッシュ時間は５分おきぐらいに　電車が来ます。
私は、２駅しか乗らないので、どれに乗っても問題ありません。
でも、朝の御堂筋線を　使う人の数は　とにかく多いです。
ホームは　常に　人がいっぱいで、歩くのも大変です。
ホームは、電車を待つ人が並ぶ場所と　電車から降りてきた人が歩く場所が　分けてあります。
どんなに急いていても、みんなそこに並びます。電車が到着して、降りる人が全員降りるのを黙って待ちます。そして、もう誰も降りる人はいないことを確認したら、先頭の人から順番に電車に乗り込みます。
どんどん、どんどん　人が　乗っていきます。電車のドアの近くに立っている人は、隣の人と体が当たっています。隙間はほとんどありません。それでも、スマホを見ている人もいます。
私はこれが嫌なので、目の前に電車が来ていても、次の電車に乗ることがあります。先にのれば、電車の中ほどの少しはスペースがあるところに立つことができるからです。
こんなに混んでいるのに、文句を言う人もいません。みんな、何事もないかのようにスマホをさわっていたり、目をつぶっていたり、ただ電車にゆられていたりしています。
次の駅に着くと、ドアが開くなり、たくさんの人たちが　ポーンと押し出されるように　電車を降りて行きます。そして、それぞれの行き先に向かって　すたすたと歩いて行きます。
