Focus Words: "Yesterday Only", "Today Itself", "I Also Didn't Know" | Understanding Indian English #067
설명
Your variety points at the important word in a sentence mostly with the voice: "I saw him YESTERDAY" puts a heavy, high accent on the word that matters and quietens the rest. Indian English points with words. "I saw him yesterday only." "Finish it today itself." "I also did not know." "He talks like that only." These small words, "only", "itself" and "also", are focus markers: they sit right after the word they highlight and tell you "this is the point".
What you will learn:
• Why words do the pointing
• "Only" as A focus marker
• "Itself" as A focus marker
• "Also": where it sits and what it means
• Combining focus words with phrasing
• Other small pointers: "Even", "All", "And all", "Means"
• Practice: decode the sentence
• Listening strategies
• Self-check questions to test your ear
Level: B1–B2. Self-study: listen, then take the quizzes.
