If you listen to how i talked about and described the movie, you should be able to notice that i did not go into much detail on what the movie was about. This can be a very difficult thing to do in any language, and can also lead to problems with cohesion which will of course lower your band score. Topic is something that you and your conversation partner(s) have been talking about. It is sometimes called “old information.”

The topic marker -wa roughly corresponds to English ‘as for’.

(Example)
