“I fell asleep that night thinking about the kiss that might have been. What did a kids feel like anyway?somehow I knew it wouldn’t be the one I got from Mum and Dad at bedtime. The same species, but a radically different beast, to be sure.like a wolf and whipped, only science would put them on the same tree” I extracted it from the book, Flipped. And I am confused about the last sentence “like a wolf and whipped, only science would put them together on the same tree”. What does it mean? Could you help me with that.

“I fell asleep that night thinking about the kiss that might have been. What does a kiss feel like anyway? Somehow, I knew it wouldn’t be the one I get from Mum and Dad at bed time. The same species, but a radically different beast, to be sure, like a wolf and whipped, only science would put them on the same tree” I extracted it from the book Flipped and I am confused about the last sentence “like a wolf and whipped, only science would put them together on the same tree”. What does it mean? Could you help me with that. Perhaps it is whippet, instead of whipped. A whippet is a breed of dog. So the phrase means the a wolf and a whippet could be placed on the same tree (family tree) because they are both dogs, scientifically or biologically speaking. I hope this helps. If you ever need extra help, you can message me. I am a community tutor and I am a native English speaker. I would love to help you out.

Maybe a typo? Could be a whippet, a fast dog.
