Is ‘Neither’ Singular or Plural?
“Neither” is a SINGULAR conjunction and requires the use of the SINGULAR verb form. (It often means “not one or the other” in the context of a sentence.) Use “neither” to denote each part of a pair of words (whether a singular noun or singular verb) rather than referring to both of them collectively.
"Neither John nor Sarah is coming" are two sentences fused into one. These are:
1. John is not coming.
2. Sarah is not coming.
In this sentence, we do not look at the 2 people mentioned as both the subject altogether. We treat them individually. :)
I hope this helps. :)
