hello, you can totally use the word cute, I've heard and seen it being used plenty of times. generally when it comes from a not-necessarily-young woman to a not-necessarily-young man, it denotes a sense of affection or it simply means you found THAT man particularly attractive to you.

Yes, it can describe a man, but he usually one who is not very masculine looking. For example the male singers in K-pop boy bands could be described as 'cute'. The last time I was in China (2017) I noticed quite a few young fashionable men with dyed hair, shaped eyebrows and little tight short jackets. Maybe they could be described as 'cute'. Sometimes, I thought they just looked a bit silly! But I am no longer a young man - I probably looked a bit silly too at their age... 😉
